Written by VBP | October 10, 2025

Update #2

Cebu experienced a significant earthquake today, 10 October 2025, at approximately 1:00 pm AEDT. This latest event registered a magnitude of 7.6, exceeding the strength of the tremor in early October. We wish to provide an update on the wellbeing of our teams and outline the operational safeguards now in effect.

Team Welfare and Operations

  • All three VBP Cebu locations were fully operational at the time of the earthquake.
  • Emergency procedures were implemented immediately, with all on-site personnel safely evacuated.
  • Team Member welfare checks are underway, and no major injuries have been reported.
  • Comprehensive support is being provided to anyone affected by health, housing, or safety concerns.
  • Engineering teams have undertaken structural assessments at all facilities to ensure ongoing safety.
  • All core operational systems, including cybersecurity infrastructure, remain fully functional.

Operational Plans

Disruptions to operations today will be addressed over the new week to address service commitments.  We will maintain business continuity measures over the weekend and into the new week as we monitor aftershocks and potential seismic activity. Our goal is to maintain 100% operational effectiveness.

Our focus remains the safety and wellbeing of our people, and the continuity and reliability of the services we deliver to our clients.

Update #1

On the evening of 30 September 2025, a significant earthquake struck Cebu, Philippines. The tremor was felt across the Visayas region, where many of our team members live and work. The epicentre was recorded near Bogo City, in the northern part of Cebu Island.

Team Welfare and Operations

  • The welfare of 100% of VBP team members was confirmed within 24 hours, with only five minor injuries reported. Our medical team has provided follow-up care and support.
  • VBP’s systems maintained 100% operational effectiveness, including cybersecurity, throughout the event.
  • By 1 October, 99% of our people were back to work, supported with equipment, wellbeing assistance and safe facilities where required.

Looking Ahead

Phivolcs (Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology) has reported hundreds of aftershocks since the initial earthquake; VBP remains in business continuity mode as a precaution. We will continue to monitor operations closely and stay in direct contact with clients where needed.

We are deeply grateful for the many messages of support received. Above all, we remain committed to the wellbeing of our people and to the continuity and security of the services we deliver.

Our thoughts are with everyone in Cebu and the wider Visayas community impacted by this event.
